    Unix and Linux both are multi tasking operating systems. Both may pronounced similar, but they have some differences. Read the point wise differences to understand Linux and Unix easily.

    1. Unix Operating System was developed by AT&T employees Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, Brian Kernighan, Douglas McIlroy, and Joe Ossanna. in 1969
    2. Few versions are free but many versions are paid.
    3. Unix is complete operating system comes with compiler, editor and needful utilities from one Vendor.
    4. Most Unix versions are CUI(Character Usre Interface).
    5. Unix supports various file systems like gpfs(AIX), gpfs(HP-UX) jfs.


    1. The GNU Project started by Richard Stallman in 1983 involved by many programmers including Linus Torvalds. At last after legal complications launched in 1992.

    4. Linux is just a kernal other applications like open office, firefox, compilers are from other vendors.
    5. Most Linux versions are user friendly than Linux.
    6. Linux by default supports ext3 or ext4 file systems.
